VENTSPILS 's Ventspils Mayor Aivars Lembergs has donated $10,000 to residents of New Orleans, a Ventspils City Council spokesperson said.
Lembergs was swayed by images of the devastation of the historic city, which he has visited in the past.
"The decision to donate to the victims of Hurricane Katrina was inspired by what I saw on TV 's even the most gifted Hollywood script writer would not be able to conceive something like this. The scale of the catastrophe is beyond imagination. As a mayor of a city and a human being I try to imagine the situation, feelings and suffering of people, it must be extremely tough," Lembergs was quoted as saying on Friday.
