Cheese maker delivers to Japan

VILNIUS - Vilkyskiu Pienine, Lithuania's leading producer of hard cheese, announced that it has shipped its first batch of cheese to Japan.


"So far we have shipped one container with some 20-22 tons of cheese to Japan. Our products should reach that country in approximately a month," said CEO Gintaras Bertasius.

Though the bulk of company's exports have gone to the European Union, but the company is actively searching for new markets, he added. The dairy company also ships its products to the U.S.A., Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Scandinavia, Russia and Venezuela.

Vilkyskiu Pienine reported 40.9 million litas in total sales for the first half of 2005, a rise of 11 percent year-on-year.
