VILNIUS - The Liberal Youth of Lithuania organization issued a press release arguing that every citizen should have the possibility to address the Constitutional Court.

"The possibility for citizens to address the Constitutional Court would consolidate the principle of personal legal defence. Only government institutions can address the Constitutional Court at the moment, thus a citizen is deprived of the right to directly defend his rights and freedoms," Rasa Maselskyte, the organization's chairwoman, was cited as saying.

According to the press release, if citizens are granted the right to address the Constitutional Court, their fundamental rights and freedoms would be more effectively protected. This would also create a more transparent and efficient legal system, while drawing society's attention to human rights issues.
