RIGA - Lithuanian Foreign Minister Antanas Valionis will meet his Latvian counterpart, Artis Pabriks, in a public discussion on plans to build a nuclear waste facility near the Ignalina power plant, the Latvian Foreign Ministry reported.

During the talks, Pabriks will outline Latvia's concerns over Lithuania's proposition to build a nuclear dump near the country's border. The foreign minister intends to urge Lithuania to cooperate more actively in providing informative material about the project. He also hopes the country will organize a broad public debate explaining the plan in detail.

Pabriks will also bring up Lithuania's decision to introduce a new road tax, as it has put Latvian transportation companies in a disadvantageous situation against firms from third countries -- Russia, Kazakhstan, Moldova and Romania -- as they are not required to pay the tax.
