Peter Jennings, the former anchor of ABC News in the United States, has died after battling with lung cancer.

The famous face of the nightly news was born in Canada in 1938 and started his anchoring career at ABC in 1965. He was the youngest person to ever do the job at ABC. Jennings was passionate about field reporting and spent several years in Lebanon and London as a foreign correspondent before returning to the ABC chief anchor desk in 1983. He remained there until his illness forced him to announce his departure on air April 5, 2005.
