Yukos executive to be detained for another month

VILNIUS 's A Vilnius court has extended the detention of Igor Babenko, Lithuanian-born manager of a Yukos bank, for one month.

Lithuanian prosecutors requested the extension until they received additional documents from Russia, which is asking for Babenko's extradition.

Babenko, who managed Menatep Sankt Peterburg Stavropol, will remain in a Lithuanian jail until at least Sept. 8.

Russian prosecutors suspect Babenko of embezzling over 33 million litas (9.6 million euros) in 2002 's 2005. However, Lithuanian authorities do not rule out he banker might have become a victim of political persecution.

Babenko, 55, was detained in Vilnius on July 1.
