RIGA 's The Agriculture Ministry announced it was preparing materials for a legal proceeding against the European Union over excessive stocks of foodstuffs. Agriculture Minister Martins Roze told journalists that Latvia could sue the EU over those stocks of foodstuffs that previously were not stipulated by the EU as subject to requirement of being accounted for.

Roze said that Latvia could not file its complaint with the court before the European Commission makes its final decision regarding the size of the excessive stocks.

The EU has presented to Latvia claims over 19 types of various foodstuffs as being held in excessive amounts prior to accession to the EU.
