RIGA - Latvian President Vaira Vike-Freiberga, in a farewell meeting with Latvia's European Commission head representative, Andrew Rasbash, voiced pride over the country's EU accession.

Aiva Rozenberga, the president's spokeswoman, said that Rasbash marked Latvia's EU membership referendum in 2003 as the highest point during his career. He said he experienced the "whole course of transformation from Latvia as a candidate state to Latvia as a full-fledged member sate."

Rasbash will leave his position in late July. He had been heading the EC representation in Latvia since January 2002. A tender to chose his replacement is under way.
