RIGA-A Riga City District Court on July 5,ordered left wing firebrand Nikolajs Kabanovs, a member of For Human Rights in a United Latvia, to apologize to four Latvian members of the European Parliament, for calling them "fascists."
Kabanovs called members of the nationalist party For Fatherland and Freedom "fascists" in a parliamentary meeting last year. After the court decision Kabanovs said he would not appeal, claiming he lost due to political pressure. "I knew from the very beginning that it will be a political decision. Otherwise the judge would have to recognize the claimants as fascists in her ruling," he said.
