Ambassador retires after four years in office

RIGA - Germany's Ambassador to Latvia Eckart Herold, whose term in office expires on June 30, will be paying farewell visits to Latvia's top officials from June 14 to 22. Herold has been working in Latvia since 2001. Before becoming ambassador, he held the position of Charge d'affaires at the German Embassy in Spain. He will be replaced by Eberhard Schuppius, who previously worked as the German Ambassador to Syria.In his own words, Herold's biggest achievements were organizing two visits by German presidents to Latvia and a trip by President Vaira Vike-Freiberga to Germany in March 2003.
