VILNIUS - Lithuanian President Adamkus will sign Parliament-adopted amendments to laws that stipulate the introduction of a social tax and the levying of a private real-estate tax used for commercial purposes, the prime minister said.

According to presidential advisers, Adamkus should ink the amendment on June 15.

The president's spokeswoman emphasized that Adamkus had repeatedly asked that lawmakers search for ways around introducing new taxes, and had decided to sign the amendments knowing that "the prime minister, the government and the ruling coalition assume all responsibility for drawing up the budget, and tax collection."

The president will also sign a letter to Parliament expressing his opinion on the amendments.
