Estonia and Russia have agreed to swap equal portions of land 's 128.6 hectares in all 's to make the border more logical. The areas to be exchanged include an 115.5 hectare boot-shaped piece of Russian territory protruding into Estonia near the southeastern village of Saatse that will become Estonian land. Total area of border lakes to change hands amounts to 11.4 square kilometers. In the lakes, Russia will acquire half of the fairway, as well as a passage from Lake Peipsi to Narva River. Estonia, in turn, will obtain lakeside areas close to the Piirissaar Island that are important for local fishermen.

Police have tracked down five local residents accused of pouring paint on a monument to Soviet soldiers killed in WWII at Viiratsi in the southern region of Viljandi late last week. Two individuals are under 14 years of age and the rest are 19, Viljandi police said. "All of them have been interrogated, and… the individuals have made a confession," a police spokesperson said. The officers also established that some of the accused are linked to a similar act of vandalism committed last September.

The Interior Ministry said police failed to ensure that the Bronze Soldier monument to Soviet troops in Tallinn was sufficiently guarded on the eve of the May 9 celebrations. Minister Kalle Laanet, who heard the police board's analysis and explanations by national police chief Robert Antropov, ordered his subordinates to identify planning and tactical mistakes that had been made and to evaluate the actions of responsible police officers.
