RIGA (BNS) - Latvian Prime Minister designate Andris Skele is set to give over the right to administer his Ave Lat Grupa food concern but does not know to whom yet.

Skele confirmed his intention when speaking to reporters July 12.

He said the Latvian legislation fails to regulate such matters precisely, but nevertheless he would consider to whom he would give over the right to administer Ave Lat Grupa to avoid the high tensions around the issue.

The fact that Skele is the owner of Ave Lat Grupa has sparked opposition from various circles who say Skele, in the role of government head, would be biased in his decision-making.

Ave Lat Grupa belongs to Company Management and Consultations, a firm owned 100 percent by Skele, since April 29, 1999.

Earlier 58.35 percent in Ave Lat Grupa was held by private individual Eriks Mas--tei--ko, 31.34 percent by Quainton Ltd. and 10.21 percent by Normunds Putans.

As part of the deal Ave Lat Grupa board chairman and the former chief shareholder, Eriks Masteiko, sold to Company Management and Consultations the Quainton Ltd. investment company, registered in Ireland, that held 31.34 percent of Ave Lat Grupa.

Ave Lat Grupa comprises companies like Rigas Piena Kombinats dairy company, Hanzas Maiznica bakery, Salacgriva '95, Balticovo egg producer, Rigas Vini winery, Rigas Alus brewery, Latvijas Balzams liquor maker and Laima chocolate manufacturer.
