RIGA (BNS) - The unemployment level in Latvia has dropped to 9.5 percent, the highest fall experienced lately, said Andris Silins, head of the state Employment Service.

Silins stressed such a big decline in the unemployment figure has not been seen for a long time.

On Sept. 1 the unemployment level in Latvia was 9.8 percent of the work-age population, 9.9 percent on Aug. 1 and 10 percent on July 1.

Silins said the reduction in the unemployment level can be explained by numerous companies that suffered under the Russian crisis resuming operations.

On Oct. 1 a total of 114,296 unemployed were registered in Latvia.
