Waste dump to be sealed

TALLINN (BNS) - Estonia intends to seal the Sillamae waste dump, one of the worst environmental hazards of the Baltic Sea region, by 2006 with assistance from Nordic countries and the European Commission.The total cost of the waste dump sealing project is 20 million euros ($21.5 million), Tonis Kaasik, director of AS OkoSil, the company responsible for the sealing, said Oct. 11.The project will be financed by Estonia to the tune of 3 million euros.
