RIGA - When it comes to electronica, few people do it better than the Brits. This increasingly popular sphere of music may cover a multitude of musical sins, but at its best electronica combines avant-garde sensibilities with breathtakingly beautiful music. Two stalwarts of the U.K. electronica scene will be coming to Riga to play at Brit Fresh, an audiovisual and arts project at Dream Factory on Nov. 6.

The one-day event is split into two parts. Throughout the day, the Modulo program will feature audiovisual performances, film screenings, workshops and installations. Then later in the evening there will be a special concert featuring three acts. First up is a local Latvian band called Ritmins Unltd. Combining music and video, the group will be performing its new project entitled, "The City is Much Different."

Then George Evelyn, better known as DJ E.A.S.E. from Nightmares on Wax, will be playing a set of down-tempo tunes, covering everything from hazy break-beat jazz to leftfield and modern hiphop.

But the act most worth seeing is definitely Plaid. The group started out as a side project of Black Dog Productions, but the Plaid alias grew to encompass several singles and an entire full-length album, "Not For Threes," which was released on Warp Records in 1997. After the album received rave reviews, Ed Handley and Andy Turner slowly began to withdraw from the Black Dog project and work on their own material. Later releases include "Rest Proof Clockwork" and the most recent album "Spokes," as well as remix work for Portishead, Red Snapper, Bjork and The Irresistable Force. o
