RIGA (BNS) - The number of HIV carriers has increased significantly in Latvia this year. Experts predict there will be over 400 HIV infected persons by the end of the year. The AIDS Prevention Center's latest data indicates a total of 361 HIV carriers registered in Latvia, of these 38 have full-blown AIDS. Since 1987 a total of ten people have died from AIDS in Latvia. This year 110 new HIV cases and seven full-blown AIDS cases have been registered so far which is significantly more than in 1998 when 163 new patients and 11 AIDS cases were registered during the whole of the year.
