RIGA - Latvia's farmer organizations and the Food and Veterinary Service have said they want to invite VP Market to discuss the issue of falling beef prices.

VP Market spokesman Ivars Audins said, "The meat processing companies are importing beef in much bigger amounts 's we are not the ones who determine beef price fluctuations." He added that farmers are now seeking those responsible for the low beef prices. "We are not conductors setting the price; therefore, they cannot put all the blame on VP Market. We will gladly attend the talks if other processing companies go too."
Compared with other EU members, Latvia has one of the lowest beef purchasing prices paid to producers.
