Former NKVD official denies genocide charges

RIGA (BNS) - A former NKVD official on trial in Latvia denies having taken part in genocide of Latvians and said various deportation documents with his signature are forged.Mikhail Farbtuhs admitted that he joined the NKVD shortly after the Soviet army entered the Baltic states in 1940. During a court hearing Aug. 30, Farbtuhs admitted he had interrogated several people under the instructions of the NKVD and signed respective protocols.At the same time, he denied the charges brought against him and claimed that his signatures on the documents about deportation of Latvians were not authentic...
