TALLINN - Prime Minister Kristen Michal's government has taken office and is set to hold its first sitting and Cabinet sitting on Thursday, July 25.
Prime Minister Kristen Michal took an oral oath of office before the parliament on Tuesday morning, after which all members of government signed the text of the oath. The ceremony was not attended by continuing Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur, who is on a visit to the United States. Until then, the tasks of the defense minister will be performed by the finance minister. After taking the oath of office, Michal met with previous government leader Kaja Kallas and employees of the Government Office.
The 54th composition of the government of the Republic of Estonia led by Kristen Michal includes altogether 14 ministers together with the prime minister. Ministers who also served in the previous government composition include Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur, Minister of Regional Affairs and Agriculture Piret Hartman, Interior Minister Lauri Läänemets, Minister of Social Protection Signe Riisalo, Health Minister Riina Sikkut, Minister of Education and Research Kristina Kallas and Culture Minister Heidy Purga. Newcomers are Minister of Justice and Digital Affairs Liisa-Ly Pakosta, Climate Minister Yoko Alender, Infrastructure Minister Vladimir Svet, Minister of Economic Affairs and Industry Erkki Keldo and Finance Minister Jürgen Ligi.
The Reform Party, the Social Democratic Party (SDE) and Estonia 200 will continue to work as a government coalition to ensure a sense of security for the people and companies of Estonia. The common goal of the government is to ensure Estonia's security, grow the economy, reduce social and regional inequality and ensure the country's financial sustainability.
The government will meet for the first time on Thursday, July 25 at a 10 a.m. government sitting and a subsequent Cabinet meeting.
