Nearly 40 Estonian representatives taking part in Military World Games

TALLINN - The 7th CISM Military World Games started in Wuhan, China, on Friday and attending from Estonia are nine members of the sports team of the Cyber Command of the defense forces as well as 27 members of the Kaitseliit (Defense League) volunteer corps.

The Military World Games are taking place from Oct. 18 to 27 in Wuhan, China. The participants will compete in 27 different areas, while military sportsmen from 138 countries have been invited to participate, spokespeople at the headquarters of the defense forces said.

"This is the place where countries can show how good their soldiers are, how great their athletes are, and it should give a picture of the strength of their entire defense forces and the country. For Estonia, it is also an opportunity to compare itself with the big countries. So far, our athletes have represented the Estonian defense forces and the Estonian state with great dignity," Col. Mati Tikerpuu, head of the training division of the headquarters of the defense forces, said.

The International Military Sports Council (IMSC), or Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM), has been organizing the Military World Games every four years since 1995.
