MP Adamsons remanded in custody

RIGA - The Riga Regional Court today decided today to reman MP Janis Adamsons, suspected of spying for Russia, in custody, LETA learned from the court.

As reported, Saeima member Adamsons was detained in June on suspicions of spying for Russia and Riga City Vidzeme District Court has ruled to remand him in custody. The court also also imposed arrest on another person, a Russian citizen.

The State Security Service informed that searches were conducted at several locations, including the parliament building. The State Security Service has obtained a large number of data carriers and documents, and has started to analyze the materials.

Both arrested persons are suspects in the case.

The Saeima has stripped MP Adamsons of his lawmaker's immunity on suspicion of spying for Russia.

The Prosecutor General’s Office requested the parliament’s permission to search, detain and take Adamsons into custody.
