More than ten customs officials detained on corruption suspicion

RIGA - In the criminal case investigated by the State Revenue Service (VID), more than ten customs officials have been detained on corruption suspicion, VID representative Andrejs Vaivars reported.

Vaivars did not comment on the statuses assigned for the detained official or the restrictive measures applied.

As reproted, following a probe at Terehova border checkpoint carried out by the State Revenue Service's Internal Security Department in cooperation with the Prosecution Office for Investigation of Public Office Holders Misconduct Offences, Corruption Prevention Bureau, Tax and Customs Police and the State Border Guard, several officials from the Revenue Service's Customs Board have been detained, as the Revenue Service informed LETA earlier.

The probe was carried out as part of the Revenue Service's corruption prevention efforts. No further information will be released for the time being so as not to impede the ongoing investigation.
