MEP: Europe may not allow implementation of Nord Stream 2

Natural gas pipeline Nord Stream 2 would be a strong weapon in Russia’s diplomatic arsenal, and Europe cannot afford it, said Latvia’s MEP Krisjanis Karins (Unity). Lawmakers also believe that this project goes against the objectives of the Energy Union, and is a Russian-controlled monopoly that will find it hard to meet requirements of European laws. “Instead of reducing EU’s dependency on one supplier, this project will increase it,” said Karins.
