Mass testing prior to school year has revealed 72 additional Covid-19 infections

RIGA - During mass testing of students before the new school year, 72 Covid-19 infections were detected this week, LETA was informed by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).

To date, 81,334 screening tests have been performed in relation to educational institutions. Mass testing has revealed 72 new cases of Covid-19.

The proportion of positive cases against the tested ones was 0.09 percent, which is less than in the society as a whole. CDC data show that the proportion of Covid-19 cases detected by testers on a daily basis this week ranged from 0.5 percent to 2 percent.

As reported, Latvia confirmed 256 new Covid-19 cases on Friday, according to information released by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control.

Latvia's cumulative 14-day number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 population rose from 101.7 to 109.5.

Of the 39,511 Covid-19 tests carried out on Friday, 0.6 percent came back positive.

Mass testing of students for Covid-19 got under way this week ahead of the new school year. Health Minister Daniels Pavluts (For Development/For) recently said that this would definitely raise the Covid-19 incidence in Latvia.
