RIGA - The main goal when working with assistance cargos to Ukraine is to achieve fast delivery of those cargos, said Latvian Ambassador to Poland Juris Poikans in an interview with commercial TV3 television today.
He reminded that before taking the position of the ambassador to Poland, he had served as the ambassador to Ukraine for several years, therefore issues related with assistance to Ukraine also are a personal matter to him. As the war goes on, it is important for all engaged parties to cooperate to achieve that Latvia's humanitarian cargos are delivered to Ukraine as soon as possible.
Poikans said that Poland geographically has the biggest burden in delivery of cargos to Ukraine. During the first months, the Polish border guards were not ready to such amounts of cargos, there were problems in border crossing, therefore the embassy assisted to help to smooth out the process. Now the cooperation is very good.
When the war started, 50 percent of the embassy's work was related with Ukraine, but now the routines have been established how to implement deliveries, assist delegations to Ukraine.
