RIGA - International passenger carrier Lux Express on Tuesday submitted to the Road Transport Administration a request to add the Riga Center-Riga Airport route to the list of commercial bus routes of regional importance and to issue Lux Express Latvia a license to provide shuttle service on this route, LETA was told at the company.

Lux Express representatives said that the final stop for the proposed route will be at the Riga International Coach Terminal.

Aldis Kibens, Head of Baltic Business Development at Lux Express, told LETA that the company in cooperation with Riga Airport has identified the need for a better transportation service for the airport's visitors. "Although the air transport industry is recovering well from the Covid-19 pandemic and Riga Airport is seeing an increase in passenger traffic, tourists still have problems getting to and from the airport," Kibens said.

He also noted that a ride on a Lux Express bus will be costlier than on Rigas Satiksme buses, but less expensive than a taxi ride.

Earlier, Transport Minister Kaspars Briskens (Progressives) said that the Lux Express fare for a bus ride from Riga Airport to the city center will be EUR 8.

The Road Transport Administration said that the Lux Express application would be reviewed at the next meeting of the Public Transport Council.

Lux Express Latvia was registered in 1994 and has a share capital of EUR 193,404 euros, according to Firmas.lv. Lux Express Latvia is solely owned by Lux Express Estonia.

Lux Express Group operates international long-haul services to more than 20 destinations in seven countries, including Kurressaare, Tallinn, Narva, Parnu, Tartu, Riga, Vilnius and Warsaw. The company also operates domestic passenger services in Estonia.
