Karl succeeds Nils Melngailis, who will step down as Chair of the Supervisory Councils of Luminor Holding and Luminor Bank, effective 31 December 2025, after more than eight years of exceptional leadership.
Since Luminor was established in 2017, Nils Melngailis has been instrumental in building the bank into the leading independent financial institution in the Baltic region. Under his chairmanship, Luminor has navigated successfully a period of significant transformation, delivered strong growth, and created lasting value for customers, employees, and shareholders. On stepping down as Chair, Nils will remain as a member of the Council for a handover period and will support Luminor until the end of 2026 in the capacity of Senior Advisor.
From 1 January 2026, Karl von Rohr will succeed Nils as Chair of the Supervisory Councils of Luminor Holding and Luminor Bank. Karl brings three decades of international banking experience from Deutsche Bank, where he served as a member of the Management Board.
He was previously President of the Management Board and Chief Executive of Deutsche Bank’s Private Bank and, until recently, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of DWS Group, Deutsche Bank’s listed asset management arm. Karl’s deep expertise in governance and strategy, alongside his knowledge of the European financial sector, will be invaluable as Luminor realises its strategy.
Mr von Rohr, a German citizen, is a qualified German lawyer and holds a Master of Laws degree awarded by Cornell University. He is a member of the Supervisory Board of Brenntag SE and various other companies and not-for-profit organisations’ boards. His appointment is subject to regulatory approval.
