RIGA - Long-term changes in public behavior are significant in curbing the Covid-19 pandemic, said Latvian Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) in a remote European Council meeting today.

The prime minister's office informed LETA that EU leaders discussed curbing Covid-19 pandemics, joint EU approach to ensure broader testing, and agreed to work on mutual recognition of tests and test results.

Karins in the discussion underscored that long-term changes in public behavior are significant in curbing Covid-19 pandemic, taking physical distancing, regular hand washing and disinfection, wearing of face masks where necessary as the new norm.

The EU leaders, discussing the latest clinical researches on vaccines, admitted that they are promising and member states should be ready to ensure availability of the vaccines to residents as soon as they are ready.
