Local governments by September should submit their proposals on development of school network – Suplinska

RIGA – Local governments until September should prepare their vision on development of school network to the Education and Science Ministry, said Education and Science Minister Ilga Suplinska (New Conservative Party, JKP).

She said that local governments by fall should decide which educational institutions in 2020 will be operated as secondary schools, which will be state gymnasiums and which will be restructured into elementary schools.

This is necessary for the discussion on the school network optimization in general, its consequences and benefits, and this work should be held in line with discussions on the planned territorial reform.

Suplinska said that by May the ministry will prepare the quality criteria for educational institutions, at the same time, also the quantitative criteria might be revised.
