In 2019, 5.1 million people used railway transport services in Lithuania, which is 7.7 percent more than in 2018 (4.7 million). To develop the passenger transportation sector, Lithuanian Railways (Lietuvos geležinkeliai) improves and modernizes the processes of payment for services, thereby increasing customer loyalty.
As part of the payment automation project, Lithuanian Railways acquired about 100 Ingenico mobile payment terminals from ASHBURN International, a company specializing in software solutions for EFTPOS terminals.

Guests from other cities and countries do not need to pre-purchase a ticket or have the cash to buy it. They can pay by credit card on the train. Mobile devices save time and simplify the payment process since a single touch of the card is enough to buy a ticket.
Lithuanian Railways is the national, state-owned railway company of Lithuania. It operates most railway lines in the country. According to preliminary data for 11 months of 2019, the turnover of Lithuanian Railways as compared to the same period last year increased by 1.2 percent and reached 427.4 million euros. In 2018, the profit of Lithuanian Railways amounted to 54.8 million euros, the company paid record dividends to the state for 43 million euros.
