VILNIUS – Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda has offered his condolences following the death of former US President Jimmy Carter.

"Rest in peace, President Jimmy Carter," Nauseda posted on the X social media platform late Sunday evening.

"His lifelong dedication to service and compassion will be remembered. Condolences to his family and the American people."

Carter, a Democrat who served as the 39th president of the United States from 1977 to 1981, passed away on Sunday at the age of 100.

He founded the Carter Center in 1982 to pursue his vision of world diplomacy, and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his "decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development".
