VILNIUS - Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda met Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Warsaw on Tuesday.
According to the President's Office, Nauseda and Tusk discussed bilateral economic cooperation, infrastructure projects, the European Union agenda, negotiations on the bloc's multiannual financial framework, and investment in security and military mobility.
Nauseda highlighted Lithuania's aim to further develop cross-border economic ties between the two countries and the need for concrete action to advance the initiative. He said the greatest opportunities for cooperation lay in defence and dual-use technologies, green manufacturing, agricultural technologies and smart logistics. Poland is Lithuania's largest trading partner, with annual trade exceeding 10 billion euros, according to the President's Office.
Nauseda and Tusk also discussed the implementation of key military projects, including the Eastern Shield and the Baltic Defence Line. Nauseda stressed the importance of joint efforts to secure the necessary political and financial support to protect critical infrastructure and strengthen resilience, including through the Harmony Link and Rail Baltica projects.
Last week, Nauseda, together with the leaders of Estonia, Latvia and Poland, urged European Union leaders to allocate sufficient funding for the Rail Baltica European-gauge railway project.
Nauseda also thanked Poland for helping restore electricity supplies after a devastating storm swept through Lithuania on August 22.
The president welcomed a recently signed statement by the responsible authorities of both countries on strengthening energy infrastructure security and mutual assistance. The statement provides for the development of rapid cross-border assistance mechanisms, stronger protection of energy infrastructure and stockpiling of critical equipment.
