Lithuanian president leaves for Rome to meet with pope, Italian leaders

VILNIUS - Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda is leaving on Thursday for a two-day visit to Rome to meet with Pope Francis and Italy's leaders,  

On Thursday, the president is scheduled to meet with members of the local Lithuanian community and visit the Pontifical Lithuanian St. Casimir's College in Rome.  

On Friday, Nauseda is to meet with the pontiff and with President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giuseppe Conti.  

According to diplomats, the meetings with the Italian leaders will likely focus on issues on the EU agenda, particularly migration and the bloc's next budget.

The president is accompanied on his trip by First Lady Diana Nausediene.
