VILNIUS – Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda has offered his condolences following a plane crash in South Korea.

Nauseda "expresses his heartfelt condolences to the families, relatives and friends of all those who lost their lives," the president's office said in a press release on Sunday.

"During this difficult time, our thoughts are with the people of South Korea and everyone impacted by this tragedy," it quoted the president as saying.

The Jeju Air aircraft carrying 181 people from Bangkok to South Korea crashed while attempting to land at Muan International Airport on Sunday. Two people have been rescued.

Officials have indicated that the crash may have been caused by a bird strike and bad weather.
