VILNIUS – Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda is meeting with Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte on Thursday to discuss the situation in the electricity market and other issues, Ridas Jasiulionis, the president's spokesman, has told BNS.

Perlas Energija, an independent electricity supplier, has announced that it is terminating fixed-price contracts with retail customers as prices on the Nord Pool power exchange have surged to record highs in recent days.

In response to Perlas Energija's move, Nauseda said last week that the legal sustainability of the liberalized electricity market had to be ensured and that he was waiting for Simonyte to return from her vacation to discuss the situation.
