VILNIUS - Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda will take part in a European Union leaders' meeting via conference call on Wednesday.
According to Nauseda's office, the bloc's leaders will discuss the results of French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Washington and preparations for the European Council's extraordinary meeting on March 6.
On Monday, Macron warned that peace cannot mean Ukraine's "surrender" and said that his talks with US President Donald Trump had shown a "path forward" despite fears of a transatlantic rift.
Macron and Trump met at the White House as Ukraine marked the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion.
The two leaders said there was progress on the idea of sending peacekeepers to Ukraine, but Macron insisted on US security guarantees for Kyiv.
The French leader said Trump had "good reason" to re-engage with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Some European leaders are concerned about the course of peace negotiations and the shift in US policy toward Russia under Trump. They fear that Washington may make significant concessions to Moscow.
There are also concerns in Europe that the US might pull some of its troops from the continent to focus on the Indo-Pacific region.
