VILNIUS - The Seimas Committee on Foreign Affairs approved on Friday a package of bills on Lithuania's preparation for a no-deal Brexit.

The government says the draft legislation will help mitigate possible negative consequences of the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the bloc in the case of a no deal scenario, ensuring the rights of the citizens of both states and protecting business expectations.

The package of almost 20 bills covers education, social security, health, taxes, consular services and other areas.

The package, which is going through the parliament under a fast-track procedure, is expected to return to the full Seimas on April 9.
