VILNIUS – Speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas Viktoras Pranckietis is leaving for Strasbourg on Wednesday to attend a meeting of parliament speakers from Mediterranean Sea region countries.
Pranckietis will take part in discussions on migrations issue, the Seimas' press service said.
"Lithuania supports international efforts to resolve migrations challenges. It is important not only to strengthen states' border protection but also to closely cooperate with the countries of origin of illegal migration and also transit countries, and also fight human trafficking," the Lithuanian parliamentary speaker says.
In Strasbourg, he is scheduled to meet with Angelo Farrugia, speaker of the House of Representatives of Malta, Maria Edera Spadoni, a deputy speaker of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, Istvan Hiller, a deputy speaker of Hungary's National Assembly, and also with Viorel Ilie, the head of Romania's Mediterranean Sea region delegation.
