VILNIUS - Lithuania's Liberal MP Andrius Bagdonas has received a notice of suspicion in the high-profile "receipt case" and is suspected of having embezzled 580 euros, the Special Investigation Service said on Monday.

Bagdonas is also suspected fraud, the abuse of his official position and the falsification of documents related to the politician's fuel expenses while he was a member of the Neringa Municipality Council in 2019-2020.

The Liberal MP is suspected of falsifying five councilor's expense reports and thus fraudulently obtaining 580 euros.

Bagdonas was stripped of his legal immunity in December.

In August, at the suggestion of the prosecution service, Bagdonas repaid 4,423 euro into the Neringa budget as prosecutors were conducting a separate investigation into the possible unlawful use of funds councilors get for their professional activities.

The Special Investigation Service is currently conducting pre-trial investigations into the possible misuse of municipal funds at 34 municipalities.
