VILNIUS - Coronavirus-related information incidents are on the rise, and NATO and Allied troops in Lithuania remain the main target of disinformation, according to the Strategic Communication Department of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.

The department's analysts recorded 96 coronavirus-related information incidents on April 17-23, sixteen more than a week earlier.

A total of 869 coronavirus-related information incidents of various types, in the Lithuanian, Russian and English languages, were identified in cyberspace in the period between February 1 and April 23, it said.

According to the military, those who spread disinformation seek to capitalize on the COVID-19 pandemic to sow fear and tensions, and turn public opinion against Allied troops in Lithuania.
