Lithuanian leaders offer condolences after US plane crash

VILNIUS –  Lithuanian leaders have expressed their condolences to the victims and families affected by Wednesday's plane crash in Washington, D.C. 

"Terrible news from Washington. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims of the crash and their families. Lithuania stands with the United States in this dark hour," President Gitanas Nauseda posted on the X social media platform.

Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas also shared his condolences.

"Deeply saddening news of the aircraft accident in Washington, D.C. My heartfelt condolences to the affected families and American people. Our thoughts and prayers are with you," he posted on X. 

Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys echoed these sentiments.

"My heartfelt condolences to the American people and to the families who lost their loved ones in this devastating event. In this moment of grief, Lithuania mourns with you," he wrote on the same platform.

A US passenger jet carrying 64 people crashed into Washington's Potomac River after colliding midair with a military helicopter on a night training exercise.

The accident happened late Wednesday US time, triggering a massive rescue operation and grounding all flights.

There is still no official information on casualties or injuries.
