Lithuanian leaders congratulate Estonia's newly elected president Madise

VILNIUS - Lithuanian leaders congratulated Estonia's newly elected President Ulle Madise on Wednesday, highlighting the close ties between the two countries and their shared security and democratic goals.

President Gitanas Nauseda, in his message to the president-elect, underscored the long-standing and excellent relations between Lithuania and Estonia.

"I have no doubt that the time-tested friendship and mutual trust between our nations will remain a sustainable foundation for a multifaceted dialogue. As you assume the office of the President of the Republic of Estonia, we will continue to consistently strengthen our close cooperation," Nauseda said.

The president emphasised that Estonia is a key ally for Lithuania. According to the head of state, both countries pursue strategic goals together, contribute to the security of the Baltic region and support Ukraine in its fight for freedom and democratic values.

"In the context of security and global challenges, our close cooperation within the Nordic-Baltic family, the European Union and NATO becomes even more vital. I am certain that, guided by the same objectives, we will continue to strengthen our partnership," the Lithuanian leader said.

Nauseda wished the Estonian president-elect success, determination and strength in working for the benefit of her country and its people.

He also invited Madise to visit Lithuania, noting that such a visit would serve as a further expression of close bilateral cooperation and contribute to strengthening political, economic and cultural ties.

"I wish the president-elect the greatest success in leading Estonia and representing its voice on the international stage," Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevicius wrote on the social media platform X.

Speaker of the Seimas Juozas Olekas said that Lithuania and Estonia are linked not only by proximity but also by very similar views on security, democracy and the future of Europe.

"I believe that the bond and close cooperation between Lithuania and Estonia will only continue to grow stronger," Olekas wrote on Facebook.
