VILNIUS – Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said he wished US President-elect Donald Trump, whom he met at a dinner in Paris on Saturday, to find a fair solution for Ukraine.

"For my part, I wished him God's blessing to find a fair solution regarding Ukraine – one that is fair, first and foremost, from Ukraine's perspective," the Lithuanian president said.

Nauseda and First Lady Diana Nausediene attended the official reopening ceremony of the restored Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris on Saturday.

Before the ceremony, French President Emmanuel Macron hosted a trilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Trump at the Elysee Palace.

During the dinner in Paris, Nauseda also met with Zelensky.

According to the Lithuanian president, the meetings between Trump and Zelensky give hope that the US president-elect will gain a better understanding of the situation in Ukraine once he assumes office.

"Honest peace talks and a fair peace, fair from Ukraine's standpoint, are what we all strive for," the Lithuanian leader said.

Trump said on Sunday that Zelensky "would like to make a deal" to end the war in Ukraine. The US president-elect called for "an immediate ceasefire" and said "negotiations should begin".
