VILNIUS – Lithuanian delegation headed by President Gitanas Nauseda is attending Ukraine's 30th independence anniversary celebrations on Tuesday.
Members of the delegation also include Jonas Jarutis, vice-speaker of the Seimas, Laurynas Kasciunas, chairman of the parliamentary Committee on National Security and Defense, and Emanuelis Zingeris, head of the Seimas Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
Ukraine declared independence from the Soviet Union on August 24, 1991, in the wake of the failed coup attempt in Moscow.
However, Russia annexed the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine in 2014.
Nauseda reiterated on Monday, the first day of his visit to Kiev, that "Lithuania has never recognized and will not recognize the occupation and annexation of Crimea".
