VILNIUS – Lithuanian customs officers have detained 2,000 packages of contraband medications hidden in a truck that arrived from the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad, the Kaunas territorial customs office said on Tuesday.
The truck's driver, a Russian citizen identified by his initials A. L., told customs officers at the Kybartai checkpoint that he was transporting a shipment of seafood.
However, the officers inspected the truck and found 1,936 packages of various medications hidden under the passenger seat and among the driver's personal belongings.
The value of the contraband shipment, including the taxes, is estimated at 1,018 euros.
The driver faces a fine and seizure of the medications.
