VILNIUS – Lithuanian Culture Minister Simonas Kairys is taking part in a meeting of EU culture ministers in Brussels on Tuesday.

The Council will discuss a progress report on the state of play of work on the proposal for a European Media Freedom Act, the Culture Ministry has said.

The ministers also plan to adopt conclusions on at-risk and displaced artists.

"The draft Council conclusions recognize the important role of artists in society and their contribution to peace, freedom, democracy and cultural diversity, and underline the need to address the protection of at-risk and displaced artists from all forms of threats and coercion," according to the ministry.

The Council's conclusions cover the whole world, but pay particular attention to Ukraine and the situation of its artists and others fleeing Russia's war, it said.

In Brussels, Kairys is also scheduled to meet with Lithuania's European Commissioner Virginijus Sinkevicius.
