VLNIUS – Lithuania will propose to NATO allies to provide a membership action plan to Ukraine, and the country could become an Alliance member once it is implemented, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis says.

"We should soon turn to colleagues with a letter, urging them to once again consider this option of providing an MAP to Ukraine," he told a press conference in Vilnius on Wednesday.

"In my opinion, and we have just started coordinating this issue with the counterparts from the Baltic states, that NATO could repeat its proposal to provide a MAP to Ukraine," Landsbergis said after his meeting with visiting Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation Arancha Gonzalez Laya.

According to Landsbergis, that would be "a strong signal to Russia that Ukraine's chosen transatlantic direction is appreciated and resonates among NATO states".
