VILNIUS - A letter of intent was signed at the Gothenburg Book Fair in Sweden on Friday, confirming Lithuania's agreement to be a guest of honor at this cultural event in 2028.
Lithuania was a guest of honor at the fair in 2005.
Normally, a guest of honor gets a separate pavilion or stand at the fair, more attention is paid to the country's presentation and more translated books are published.
The letter of intent was signed by the Gothenburg Book Fair and the Lithuanian Cultural Institute and the Lithuanian Publishers' Association as the fair marks its 40th anniversary this year.
LCI Director Julija Reklaite says the aim of Lithuania's presentation at the Gothenburg Book Fair is to update and deepen the Nordic region's knowledge of the country's culture, to activate cultural dialogue and to raise a new generation of Lithuanian literature readers.
"During the four years of preparation, we intend to focus on cooperation with Swedish literary organizations and publishers, to strengthen our translator education and promotion programs, and to create more opportunities for Lithuanian authors' works to reach Swedish readers," she said.
