VILNIUS - Lithuanian soldiers back home from international operations in Iraq will be awarded in a ceremony in Vilnius on Tuesday, the Defense Ministry said.
The national defense system's medals "For International Operations" will be presented to 14 professional military service members who have completed their six-month service in the US-led operation Inherent Resolve within the Danish contingent.
Awards will also be conferred to two instructors and soldiers of the Deployable Communication and Information Systems Module who have completed their six-month service in NATO's international mission in Baghdad.
The NATO-led international operation in Iraq has been conducted since 2004 to help train the country's security forces.
Lithuania has participated in the US-led operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq since 2017 with a constant contribution of six military instructors training local security forces. The Lithuanians are serving within the Danish contingent the al Asad base in the northwestern part of Iraq.
